The Gummi Way’s 5th Anniversary

Aug 12, 2026
Pascal looking very comfortable after 5 years.

It’s crazy to think 5 years ago I was at a bowling alley in middle of the COVID outbreak doodling and I drew a gummi bear with glasses which sparked all the ideas of this comic. The ideas were coming to me so fast I couldn’t type them out fast enough!

First drawing of Pascal

As you read through the comic you can really see his design evolve over the last 5 years, but as they say, design is never done! Five years, nine books, and 200+ pages later, I’m honestly still a little amazed this exists and thankful for those that have encouraged me to keep going. (By the way, we’re not even half way through the story.) 😉

Believe it or not I’m still in the middle of a move but I have been working on chapter 9 as much as I can. Once I get the new desk set up (hopefully within a week or so), I’m going to start finishing pages!

In the meantime here is another sneak preview:

Pascal and Cubbi drinking gummiberry juice.

I plan on doing lots of live streaming for this chapter and you’ll be able to see that right at the main page of this site.

Here’s to 5 years of new gummi adventures and to many years more! 🐻✨

Book 9: Lineart Prep and Moving

Jun 20, 2026

It’s been about a month and a half since my last update so I thought I’d share some progress on book 9. Currently, 29 out of 65 pages have their thumbnails “tied-down”, meaning I know where the camera is pointing and how the characters are posed in the panels.

Cubbi and Pascal walking in the forest.

It doesn’t look like much right now, but when I loop back to it, all I have to do is draw the lineart instead of worrying where everything needs to go on the page. It also helps me visualize it so I can see if what I had in the script actually flows well when reading it.

In other news I’m going to be moving in a couple of weeks, only about 2 miles away from my current place but it’s still a process. During packing I ended up creating a box labeled “G.S.” (See caption for it’s meaning):

I’m not one for possessions but I do have my small share of gummi stuff I’ve collected over the years. This also isn’t all of it. Haha.

In regards to the comic, the moving hasn’t slowed me down much. I still work on it almost daily even if it’s just for an hour or so. I’m excited to start drawing this out and share the final lineart. In the meantime, thank you for paying attention to my little/not-so-little side hobby.

Until next time!

Book 9: Forging Ahead

May 8, 2026

Before I could start tying down book 9, I knew I needed a detailed Cubbi model sheet first, and it turned out to be more involved than expected.

Since Cubbi isn’t exactly symmetrical, I had to do the full turnaround. That asymmetry matters more than it might seem: it’ll be essential when I need to figure out how his sword hangs correctly depending on his angle. Now that it’s done, I have a solid reference to work from as the chapter comes together.

Cubbi Gummi’s Turnaround Sheet

This chapter is going to focus on the rest of Pascal’s training, so expect plenty of action, but there’s more to training than sword fighting as you’ll see soon enough.

Pascal getting hit with a wooden/practice sword.
Cubbi and Pascal sparring with wooden swords.

Once I go through and tie down all the panels, the detailed work begins. I’ll be sharing more of the process here as I have things worth showing. Next up will be the first fully tied-down panels.

As always, I’m very active on the Discord server for ‘The Gummi Way‘ and you’re welcome to leave a comment if you have any questions.

Book 9 Thumbnails Complete

Apr 4, 2026

I’ve been working almost daily to get this chapter in a sketchy “stick-figure” form that I can visually see. I knew this chapter was going to be a monster because of the script, but I wasn’t aware how much of a monster until now.

Thumbnails for Book 9

65 pages total (not including the cover and extra pages). Wow, why so much? Lots and lots of action! Action eats pages and I have no regrets. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Here’s a quick preview of the work in progress:

Pascal slicing a vine

Before getting started I want to create a proper model sheet for Cubbi and maybe even Pascal. They are a major focus in this chapter so I want them to be consistent. After that I can start adding details starting with the first page.

A Fresh Look + Chapter 9 Progress

Mar 23, 2026

I just launched a newly redesigned version of the website you’re currently viewing, and I wanted to share a quick update on both the site and the comic.

The goal with the redesign was to give the site a cleaner, more polished presentation, improve the experience on mobile devices, and better match the tone of the comic. I also added a new online shop, where physical copies of The Gummi Way are now available.

On the comic side, Chapter 9 is coming along steadily. The full chapter is already written, but I’m still refining some of the action sequences and visual beats as I work through the pages. This part of the process is always a bit fluid, while the major story moments are locked in, how they play out on the page continues to evolve as I draw.

This chapter leans heavily into Pascal’s training, especially in how he moves and fights within the forest. A lot of the current work has been focused on making those moments feel dynamic and clear, particularly in the training and sparring sequences.

As always, I’ll be releasing the chapter once it’s complete. In the meantime, I’ll be posting works in progress here on the site, as well as on Bluesky and the Discord server.

Thanks for following along and for taking the time to check out the new site!
